The immediate past Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, (NDDC), Mrs Joy Nunieh, has on Friday accused the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio, off confiscating the NDDC forensic audit conducted on the order of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Nunieh disclosed this while speaking before the House of Representative Committee investigating allegations of fund misappropriation and illegal expenditure by the NDDC, she emphasized that Akpabio breached various laws for the purpose of hijacking the forensic audit.
Recall that the NDDC investigation took another turn on Thursday when policemen reportedly invaded the Ex-NDDC boss residence in Port Harcourt, Rivers state. However the intervention of the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, prevented the police from taking her away.
Nevertheless, Nunieh, attended the hearing on Friday by making her presentation via Zoom, she started by apologizing for not showing up at the hearing on the previous day, explaining that the police could have taken her away and nobody would know what might have became of her.
She went further to elucidate that what had happened on Thursday was all about documents and it has been the modus operandi of enemies of the minister and ex-governor of Akwa Ibom State.
When asked about the about the forensic audit ordered by Buhari, which was the reason why the IMC was inaugurated, She responded that Senator Godswill Akpabio had insisted that he would oversee the forensic audit, she added that she reminded him and showed him the letter from the President which prevent spending from the budget.
The Ex-NDDC Boss went on to allege that she met was not was what was supposed to be going on as Akpabio did not appoint any auditor to conduct the auditing as he claimed, she claimed that the minister had requested for funding of the forensic audit by the President who with wisdom declined the request.
In her explanations, Nunieh, said when she was at the NDDC she was the one who prepared documents for the forensic audits and as well sent in the applications, according to her, going through the procurements of lead consultants were the first step for her team.
She explained that it was difficult for many people to understand the procurement of the lead consultant because she had shunned all forms off illegality and had ensured the auditors terms of reference were from big consultants.
Nunieh went further to accuse Akpabio of misleading the Federal Executive Council to approve the procurement of auditors even when the audit was to be funded with the 2020 budget of the NDDC.
She stated that a total of N8 billion was spent during her tenure as acting Managing Director of the NDDC from October 2019 to February 2020. Other allegations that were raised against Akpabio by the Nunieh include asking her to sack some workers and to employ some which were in connection with his God fathers.
Nonetheless the law makers after Nunieh’s presentation have summoned Akpabio, to appear before the committee on Monday.
