Man Comits Suicide after been fined N215,000 in Ogun

A man identified as Fatai Salami, have reportedly committed suicide on Monday in Ogun State, Salami who was a truck owner has his trucked seized by operatives of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) for violating the Ogun State COVID-19 laws.

News Naija learnt that Salame drank afluid which was believed to be an insecticide at the TRACE premises after he was been fined N215,000.

According to a source Salami’s truck was seized by the operatives of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps from his driver in Abeokuta over alleged failure to adhere with the COVID-19 preventive protocols on Thursday.

Salami had however visited the TRACE office to plead for the release of his truck but he was denied, the source reported that Salami had been sleeping in the premises of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), since Thursday.

And on Monday when he was able to gather a sum of N150,000 which he pleaded to bail his truck with but he was denied, it was gathered that Salami threatened to kill himself after the denial but he was not taken seriously until he drank a snipper insecticide and died.

The Ogun StateTraffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, Public Relations Officer, Babatunde Akinbiyi, while speaking to journalist confirmed the death of the man but however denied the fact that the man was been fined.

Akinbiyi could not confirm if the man was a truck driver or a truck owner, he explained that the man was sighted sitting on the floor in the TRACE premises and people were persuading him to stand up when suddenly he brought out a portion from his pocket which he drank immediately.

The TRACE  Boss in his statement said it was later discovered that the man had drank sniper, he reiterated that the TRACE officials do not know what the man was doing in their premises before his demise and had now reported the case to the police.
